ABOUT Scale is a custom typeface inspired by the structural language, rhythm, and visual energy of New York City architecture. The project explored how typographic form can echo the city’s towering facades, grid patterns, and layered urban experiences, translating the scale and cadence of skyscrapers, bridges, and streets into letterforms.
INTENT The design intention was to create a typeface that feels rooted in the city’s built environment, with proportions and shapes that evoke both the precision of engineered structures and the dynamism of metropolitan life. By abstracting architectural elements into type, Scale connects functional clarity with visual character, making it versatile across editorial, branding, and experimental applications.
DESIGN The process balanced geometric discipline with expressive detail, allowing the typeface to reflect the structure found in New York’s streetscapes. The result is a visual system that captures the pulse of the city and gives typographic voice to the idea of urban scale and movement.
